This place turned out to be a nightmare for my mom. She went down hill quickly while in their care. They offer customized dietary meal plans. They do not. Often times the cook didn’t show up. They then fed the residents donuts for breakfast. My mom was diabetic. This happened on more than one occasion. Laundry machine broke down. Took over 2 weeks to get a new one. Mom had no clean clothes. Called me to order her more. They wouldn’t allow outside PSW’s in the home either. They wanted the money received instead promising to give the same care the outside Care Partners provided. They did not. Most of the staff were lovely. However, you cannot have 1 PSW for the entire building looking after everyone. It can’t be done. They mismanaged mom’s insulin as well. Within a month and a half, my mother’s health declined so badly she had to be hospitalized. She fell in the bathroom, staff ripped open the door and dragged my mother out. My mother’s legs were proof of what happened. They wouldn’t accept accountability for anything. This place doesn’t care about their residents, only the money coming in. Please don’t send your loved one there. You will only be disappointed.
View on GoogleWhile it's nice to see the outdoor areas are Trillium award worthy, the feeling quickly fades as you enter the assisted living residence. The state of this facility is in disrepair and in dire need of upgrades to the flooring, walls, ceilings and furniture throughout the assisted living space. More troubling are the multiple instances that suggest a pattern of neglect toward the care of our parent including unreported bed sores, unexplained bruises and skin tears, lack of room sanitation and proper documentation of daily health monitoring. Fortunately we were able to relocate our father to another facility, however our concerns remain for those who continue to reside there and have no one to advocate on their behalf. We had expressed our concerns to the management and owner with minimal to no response. Check the inspection reports and look elsewhere for proper care for you loved one.
View on GoogleFrontline staff fantastic. Sheila/Manager needs to learn how to empathize and take ownership of a situation when “agitated” family is looking for updates due to repeated compromised living conditions that affect the safety of their residents. An apology goes a long way! In regards to your response, 3 months isn't a timely resolution and my expectation that someone would reach out to me to tell me the lack of heat was resolved after the 3rd incident is not unreasonable but common courtesy, in my mind. Since I didn't yell or berate, you are misrepresenting who became the aggressor on that phone call. Had the Manager acknowledged my frustration, empathized on the situation (which she was unaware was happening or was an ongoing issue), given a sincere or insincere apology instead of escalating the situation by trivializing my inquiry and the entire situation, this review would never have posted. Mom is very happy there and we've been satisfied until now. We will have to agree to disagree on responsibility and communication when problems arise.
View on GoogleThe staff at Niagara Gardens are angels. My Mom has been here for several years. Staff are compassionate and thoughtful. They treat her with respect and dignity. She likes the food and her surroundings. What more could you ask of a care home? I would recommend Niagara Gardens to anyone.
View on GoogleOur father was a resident in the Alzheimer’s wing from Feb 2016 to June 2016 when he passed. I cannot offer one negative experience during his time there. When he was starting to transition at the end, we were offered a bed in his room and three meals a day to fortify us for the inevitable. The personal attention my dad received from the nursing, admin and maintenance staff got us through those hard days. My dad had wanted to give Sheila one of his paintings, the cardinals, to which she returned it to him. He would give his artwork to friends he thought highly of; even in his state, he knew he was well cared for. We were glad to re-gift his painting to Sheila after his passing. Len Tobin
